Microfacies Analysis and Depositional Environment of Sarki Formation (Early Jurassic), Rawanduz Area, Kurdistan Region, Northern Iraq

A detail sedimentological analysis of the Sarki Formation (Early Jurassic) in Warte and Zarwan sections Imbricated Zone, northern Iraq has been conducted for first time. The both studied are consisting dolomite, dolomitic limestone recrystallized breccia. petrographic study 80 thin analyzed outcrops showed skeletal non-skeletal components. components including ostracods, bivalves echinoderms. While main non grains peloids, ooids, extraclasts intraclasts. diagenetic processes which affected carbonate rocks was dolomitization, compaction, cementation, micritization, solution slicification. result XRD SEM eight samples dolomite show that minerals calcite. In nine microfacies have identified, classified into three facies groupings correspond to depositional environments; peritidal, lagoon high energy shoal within ramp settings.
